Upcoming Projects
Cities are ever-evolving landscapes, continuously redefining the boundaries of innovation and sustainability. At Masdar City, we believe that the journey toward a greener, more sustainable future is never truly complete. Our commitment to pushing the boundaries of sustainable architecture and design knows no bounds.
We’re excited to share a glimpse of what's on the horizon. Here's a preview of some of our upcoming iconic buildings, each a testament to our unwavering dedication to innovation and sustainable living.
NZ1, a standalone office building with three floors, will be Abu Dhabi’s first net-zero energy office building. A net-zero energy building produces as much energy as it consumes over the course of a year. The simple design of NZ1 demonstrates that achieving net-zero energy is attainable in a business-as-usual office building.
NZ1 facts:
- NZ1 is designed to reduce energy use by 101 percent compared to international baselines and produce 102 percent of its annual energy needs.
- It is on track to be rated LEED Platinum, LEED Zero-Energy, and Estidama 4-Pearls.
Masdar City Square
Target completion date: 2024
Masdar City Square
is a cluster of seven commercial buildings with a gross floor area of
50,000 square meters.

Masdar City Square is a cluster of seven commercial buildings with a
gross floor area of
50,000 square meters. The development has been designed
holistically, to encourage a sense
of community and common purpose.
All seven buildings, including the HQ building, are on track to be
rated LEED Platinum, WELL
Gold, and Estidama 4-Pearls. The focal point is the net-zero energy
corporate HQ building,
the first of its kind in Abu Dhabi.
Masdar City Square HQ facts:
- The HQ building will feature a distinctive canopy of 1,033 PV panels that will provide shade and generate renewable energy.
- The panels will be oriented to the south and angled at 22 degrees to maximize solar gain.
- The building is designed to reduce energy use by 102 percent compared to international baselines and produce 109 percent of its annual energy needs.
- It is on track to be rated Zero Energy (International Living Future Institute).
The Link
Target completion date: 2025
The Link is a
cluster of five commercial and residential buildings with the gross
floor area of 30,000 square meters.

The Link is a cluster of five commercial and residential buildings
with the gross floor area
of 30,000 square meters. It has been designed to form a thriving
mini-community of offices,
residences, gathering spaces, and retail.
All five buildings are on track to be rated LEED Platinum, WELL
Gold, and Estidama 4-Pearls.
Its focal point is the CO-LAB building, a net-zero energy shared
working and living space.
Perhaps our most ambitious project yet, it will be the first
building of its kind in the
region.
CO-LAB facts:
- CO-LAB is designed to reduce energy use by 117 percent compared to international baselines and produce 135 percent of its annual energy needs.
- It is on track to be rated Zero Energy (International Living Future Institute).
- It is projected to produce 233,696 kWh of excess clean energy every year, to be fed into the local grid.
- This is equivalent to offsetting 129,935 kgCO2e of carbon emissions annually.
- At this rate, CO-LAB will offset all its upfront embodied carbon within 22.5 years, effectively achieving net-zero carbon.
