Masdar City, an Abu Dhabi, UAE-based sustainability and innovation hub dedicated to making all cities a solution to climate change announced that Attentive Science, a global organization that provides nonclinical research services to the bio-tech, pharmaceutical, and animal health industries, has chosen Masdar City, for their Middle East hub as part of their global expansion.

Masdar City, an Abu Dhabi-based sustainable urban community, has opened the region’s largest pump track, designed for wheels of all kinds—bicycles, scooters, skateboards, rollerblades, and wheelchairs—and it’s made sustainably.

According to a 2023 report by McKinsey & Company, the built environment accounts for one-quarter of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. Buildings, from inception to demolition, must decarbonise on a global scale to avoid further climate change.

Abu Dhabi, UAE, March 7, 2024 – Masdar City, an Abu Dhabi-based sustainability and innovation hub dedicated to creating a reference point for cities of the future, broke ground on the region’s first net-zero energy mosque on March 4. The new mosque will produce at least as much energy as it requires over the course of a year.

Chris Wan, Masdar City’s associate director of sustainability and CSR, is back on the conference circuit with his well-known “Masdar City’s Pathway to Net-Zero” presentation. In February, he had the pleasure of sharing it with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) at Saint Gobain’s AL-MUNTADA Knowledge Space.

The 20-hecatre park, featuring playgrounds, green spaces, sporting facilities, and the new Estidama Mosque, will be transformed with sustainable décor, games, art installations, activities, and a variety of delicious food options.

Using the latest in green farming technologies, the agri-tech initiative makes use of automated equipment and AI software to grow multiple varieties of high-quality leafy greens, lettuces, and herbs that are fresh, free of harmful chemicals, and ready to eat.

The 22-hectare park at Masdar City is now certified ‘Exemplar’ for design under the Estidama Public Realm Rating System. It is the second Masdar City park to receive this rating. Masdar Park will also introduce the emirate’s first LEED Platinum mosque.

Arco del Tiempo (Arch of Time), the winner of a 2019 design competition sponsored by Masdar City, will be one of the world’s largest energy-generating public artworks. It will generate 400,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity every year and offset 280 metric tons of carbon dioxide.
